Despite the social distanced induction and immediate working from home for some, Yorkshire Water welcomed 17 new colleagues onto its graduate scheme.

Yorkshire Water’s graduate scheme has been creating opportunities for graduates for more than 20 years. This year’s intake includes roles in project management, operations, science and engineering.

The scheme allows recent university graduates to join the business on a two-year development programme. In the first year, graduates experience four placements in different areas of the business, then choose a specialism and role to complete their final year. After the initial two years the graduates are supported with finding a permanent role that matches their strengths and career aspirations.

Placements involve shadowing team members in their day-to-day role on operational or office sites, contributing to regulatory deadlines, or working on business-critical projects.

Jenni Morris, chief people officer welcomed the new colleagues, she said: “The graduate scheme is a fantastic way to bring new talent into the business, by gaining experience of lots of different departments they get to really understand the company and identify areas where they can add strength.

“We’re looking forward to working with the graduates over the next two years and seeing them develop.”
