A South Yorkshire accountancy practice has helped businesses claim more than £2m to cope with the lockdown

Gibson Booth Ltd and its payroll arm, Salary Solutions Limited, have helped over 100 businesses claim furlough rebates, apply for grants and access various loan funding schemes.

The furlough claims alone add up to more than £1.2m for April’s payroll, with more than £1m already claimed for via the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme. On top of that, staff have helped clients access business support grants via the local authorities; given advice over VAT payment deferrals, HMRC time to pay arrangements and Bounce Back Loans, and helped with issues such as company restructuring, cashflow and personal financial planning.

Managing director of Gibson Booth, Robert Watson, said: “Our staff have been working flat out to help businesses access the help they need.

“These are unprecedented times and we feel it is vital that we go the extra mile to help clients access the support and funding that they need. We don’t exist in a bubble and when lockdown ends, we all need business to bounce back and help deliver a strong economy.

“We want to help businesses to keep going and to help keep people in jobs. This is particularly important somewhere like Barnsley which has faced difficult times in the past. Businesses need to emerge from the lockdown as strong as they can be in order that they survive in the long term for the benefit of everyone.”
