PFF Group has appointed Andrew Frith as general manager for packaging at its Washington site.

Andrew will support the plant’s general manager John Conway in the development of the site following unprecedented growth after the company won a contract from the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) to produce PPE.

PFF is one of the UK’s largest independent food packaging manufacturers, providing packaging solutions to supermarkets, multi-national food manufacturers, food service and fresh produce companies across the UK.

PFF Health was launched following the company’s move into the production of PPE. It is currently delivering the DHSC contract to manufacture 360 million polythene aprons for frontline health and social care staff.

The company has invested £2m in new equipment and created 100 jobs to deliver the contract.

Andrew has worked in packaging for more than 10 years including a six-year period in the food service industry. His career includes senior operational management roles.

Andrew said: “I’m looking forward to developing the operations potential at our Washington site by introducing best practice and efficiencies through the integration of systems with new world-class technology.”

Kenton Robbins, managing director of PFF Group, said: “We are in the process of making key appointments to support the development and growth of our new health division. Andrew has come on board as we move forward with our plans to increase production at Washington and explore other opportunities in the health sector.”
