A LEADING West Yorkshire charity which aims to prevent homelessness is looking for people who want to make a difference in these ‘challenging times’ to join their Board of Trustees.

The team at Turning Lives Around (TLA) provide bespoke solutions for people faced with homelessness or in difficulty, giving them a sense of purpose and empowering them to change their lives and live independently.

TLA is overseen by a Board of Trustees currently made up of eight professionals, aged between 30 and 78, from the NHS, law, education, architecture, business, the third sector and politics. They act as a ‘critical friend’ to TLA’s Chief Executive Janet Spencer, providing advice and support, ensuring the charity is meeting its objectives and helping it plan for a successful future.

In recruiting more trustees, Janet Spencer said TLA is hoping to increase diversity in its Board members to reflect the multicultural nature of its staff and clients.

Janet explained: “TLA is about preventing homelessness and delivering creative support that transforms lives and strengthens communities. Our solutions are unique because our clients are. We want everyone to be able to access the housing and support services they need to aspire and achieve their fullest potential.

“These are challenging times. Demands for services are increasing and all forecasts indicate this will continue. We want people who want to make a difference and help us continue to develop TLA in line with our strategy. If you have strategic vision, independent judgement and a willingness to give time and commitment to being a trustee, we’d like to hear from you.”

Politician and Political Affairs Consultant Michael Meadowcroft is one of TLA’s trustees. He said: “Trustees have a key role to play in using their expertise and experience to ensure that TLA staff have all the support possible in their difficult work. There is nothing more satisfying for Board members than to be continually aware that they have made a contribution, however small, in helping people to get the help they need.”

Applications are particularly welcome from those with experience in the housing sector, law, academia, public relations and IT. To apply, please send a CV and covering letter to mwilliams@turninglivesaround.co.uk
