Wellington Place has teamed up with Leeds-based local music experts Super Friendz, responsible for hosting highly popular events across the city, to deliver a programme of free live music events.

The Live & Local programme will showcase the best up-and-coming musical talent in the city through a range of free live music events. Spanning a range of genres - from rock and indie to jazz and blues – a series of bi-monthly music nights will be hosted in bars and restaurants across Wellington Place’s estate from autumn onwards.

The first event in the series will take place on Wednesday 14th September at popular wine bar, Veeno. Starting at 5pm, Floorkin, a BBC Radio 3 recommended live jazz trio, will take to the stage, with attendees invited to enjoy a specially curated jazz playlist accompanied by Veeno’s extensive menu of charcuterie and sharing boards.

Following this, Thursday 29th of September will see bar Mad Frans welcome a range of local acts, including Harry Moon and the Cardboard Rocket, Luna Wood, and Rosie Miles, to showcase their talents.

Throughout the rest of the year, a programme of other pop-up live music events will be held across Wellington Place, all of which will be free to attend.

Dominique Murray, marketing manager at MEPC, the developer behind Wellington Place, said: “At Wellington Place, we pride ourselves on being a vibrant and welcoming community for the whole city, and for being so much more than simply a place to work. Leeds is well known for its amazing music scene, and Super Friendz is responsible for producing many of the city’s most high-profile events and festivals, so we’re really excited to be working with them to create Live & Local.

She added: “The programme launch is a fantastic opportunity for us to support local artists, particularly as so many of the smaller grassroots music venues have been forced to close their doors permanently following the pandemic. We’re looking forward to giving artists a platform to showcase their talents and demonstrate why Leeds is one of the UK’s best cities for culture.”

Ben Lewis, managing director at Super Friendz, added: “Located in the heart of Leeds and with a range of well-established bars and restaurants, Wellington Place is an ideal venue to launch Live & Local. We’ve got some really exciting acts lined up, so would encourage everyone to come down, they might even catch the next Kaiser Chiefs or Corinne Bailey Rae before they make it big!

“This is just the beginning of our partnership with Wellington Place, as we’ll be working closely with the team over the coming months to further bolster the weekend and evening experience by offering an even broader range of exciting and accessible and events to visitors from near and far. Watch this space...”
