Barnsley Council has today announced that The Botanist – one of the UK’s most celebrated bar-and-restaurant brands – has signed up to The Glass Works, giving town centre visitors and workers even more to look forward to as we put social restrictions behind us.

The Botanist, which is the flagship brand of acclaimed bar, pub and restaurant operator New World Trading Company, is renowned for its lavish botanical-themed interiors.

Set to open to the public later this year, the 9,000 sq ft venue will be located on the ground floor alongside Cineworld and will feature a dedicated outdoor seating terrace – offering views across The Glass Works Square.

Barnsley’s winers and diners can look forward to The Botanist’s world-class cocktails, craft beers and famed hanging kebabs. Live music is another key ingredient in helping to create a relaxed and atmospheric experience-led social venue, ideal for family meals, sophisticated evenings and celebrating special occasions.

Cllr Sir Stephen Houghton, leader of Barnsley Council, said: “The Botanist is undeniably one of the most impressive bar-and-restaurant chains in the country and we are thrilled to add them to the mix of The Glass Works.

“When we set about regenerating the town centre several years ago, it was our ambition to create an environment that helped us attract brands of standout quality. To see this vision become a reality, with The Botanist complementing the likes of Cineworld, Superbowl UK, Nando’s, Next and River Island, is extremely rewarding. We hope that the Barnsley public are as excited as we are about our town centre.”

Natasha Waterfield, chief operating officer at New World Trading Company said: “Bringing our unique concepts to new cities and towns for the first time is always an exciting moment for the business.

“The vision for The Glass Works aligns with our brand and was an opportunity not to be missed following the impressive regeneration in the town. We can’t wait for the residents of Barnsley to experience our truly immersive offer at The Botanist.”

Rachel Guy, openings manager at New World Trading Company added: “Our stunning new opening brings the opportunity for exceptional individuals to join us. We’re currently recruiting a management team, Head Chef and Sous Chef to join us at The Botanist Barnsley. Those interested in joining our team will receive award-winning training and the chance to progress across our nationwide brand family.”

The Botanist is expected to support up to 60 jobs. Keep an eye out for job opportunities.

The brand is also on the hunt for talented Yorkshire-based musicians, across a range of genres including rock, pop, soul and R&B, to join its roster of artists in delivering live entertainment at the new venue.

The signing of The Botanist comes on the back of more great news for Barnsley town centre, with the internal fit out of its 13-screen Cineworld getting underway and Nando’s announcing that they will open to the public on 9 March.

Alex Hyams, leasing manager at Queensberry, commented: “The Botanist joining the line up in The Glass Works is terrific news for Barnsley. The scheme will be 90% let when it is fully open later this year and provides a great mix of shops, leisure, restaurants, bars and cafes. It’s becoming an increasingly attractive proposition and we are excited about making more leasing announcements in the coming months.”
