Langton Hall is a Grade II Listed Building which has stood derelict for over 8 years after the closure of Woodleigh School. At the start of last year, it was offered a lifeline by Leeds-based property developer C W Langton, who has invested around £3 million in the purchase and renovation of the property. CW Langton Ltd are a specialist property company who undertake Listed Building Refurbishments and New Build homes mainly in West and North Yorkshire.
The Grade II Listed Hall originally dates back to 1738 and is situated on the edge of the quaint picture-perfect village of Langton. As you pass through the imposing Greyhound gateposts at the end of the village, you are met by the grand but small enough to be friendly Hall and beautiful views of the local countryside. The buildings had fallen into a poor state of repair, defects included large leaks in the roofs, unsecure windows and rotting woodwork. Renovation plans were submitted to Ryedale DC and gained approval in 2019.
The main Hall refurbishment was completed to be a private residence for C W Langton (namesake a coincidence) in early 2020 and now the former row of staff quarters, have been developed into 3 luxury Holiday Cottages. Each cottage has access to the large heated outdoor swimming pool, tennis court and expansive grounds. Some of the cottages have luxury hot tubs. The team of staff at Langton Hall will be on site attending to the needs of the guests with a member of staff living on site to ensure everything runs smoothly. Langton Hall has its place in history and is associated with many famous names such as Anne Lister, Mary Ellen Best and the Norcliffe family
CW Langton has strived throughout the renovation process to keep many original features and even putting in new, where they have been lost when it was converted into a school, such has beautiful coving and ceiling roses. The new cottages have been aptly named with a nod to the Hall’s historic associations Mary Ellen Best, 18th Hussars and Isabella Cottages.
The renovation has taken place throughout the year, with the Mary Ellen Best cottage being completely fitted out and finished through the recent challenges of the Coronavirus lockdown. This has been a huge feat managed with strict social distancing of the workmen on site. Lockdown has also seen the temporary closure of most of our usual larger suppliers, so in order to keep renovation running smoothly this has required use of locally sourced products and multiple online delivery companies.
William Langton, Director of C W Langton Ltd. said; “It is amazing what you can do during the lockdown period even with limited resources, the cottages are now renovated to our usual high standard and we are looking forward to giving guests a well-deserved break after the pressures of the lockdown.”
A new lake has been put in the grounds not far from the waterfall, an ideal spot for a picnic or evening drink. The gardeners have been busy restoring the rose beds and installing a new terraced kitchen garden. Visitors will be visited by the Guinea fowl and Peacocks and if lucky given a clutch of eggs from the Hall’s chickens.
As it was a former school it has a gym, ideal for Basketball or Badminton. Or if you fancy Croquet a set will be provided.
A fully liveried Mini-bus available to guests on a Wednesday & Saturday.
There are beautiful walks from the estate, some include a local pub. If you want to go further afield. There is York, Malton (food capital of the North especially when the Food Festival is on), Castle Howard. Scampston Hall, Flamingo Land and the East coast is less than an hour away.
In line with the current government guidelines for the hospitality sector, bookings now can be placed for stays starting from Saturday 4th July. The newly refurbished cottages are able to be booked online via Airbnb and bookings can also be made directly through the Langton Hall website
