An estate agent is celebrating a major milestone in his career, having sold over 2,000 homes during his 25 years with Dacre, Son & Hartley.
Senior associate, Nick Alcock, joined Dacre, the Wetherby office in 1996 after leaving university, before moving to the company’s Harrogate office for five years. He then transferred to Knaresborough, where he has spent the last 19 years developing the office into the most successful estate agency in the area.
Nick said: “My mother-in-law, Sue Boid, suggested a career in property. She already worked for Dacres and was very positive about the firm, so I applied. I actually worked with her in the Knaresborough office for a number of years.
“Obviously, the industry has changed a lot over the last 25 years, thanks largely to technology and the internet. When I first started in the business, we would take the photos to the print shop and then stick them on the brochures! Everything is so much more instant, and homes can be brought to the market far quicker. The sales process is also much slicker. Our award-winning website and property portals also give us a vast reach throughout the UK and beyond, but one thing that remains consistent over the years is the need to deliver a personal service. It’s that service that sees so many clients return, as well as recommending us to their friends and families.”
Nick, and the Knaresborough team has currently been acting for three generations of the same family. Selling a property on Aspin Oval, another on Crag Lane and one, which has just completed on Fairfield Avenue. Nick added: “It’s really rewarding to be working for three generations of the same family. We have sold all three properties and already had great feedback.”
Reflecting on his time at Dacres, Nick added: “I have progressed my career and worked with many fabulous property professionals over the years. Working and living in Knaresborough for so many years means I have also developed a long-standing connection with the local community. We take part in many community events including the annual Christmas Tree Festival and Knaresborough’s Festival of Entertainment and Visual Arts (feva) as well as having sponsored Knaresborough Town FC and supporting local charitable fundraisers. There is a real sense of everyone working together for the benefit for the town.”
Over the last 25 years Nick has sold a large variety of homes in Knaresborough and its surrounding villages and has a thorough understanding of the market. He added: “Every part of the area has something unique to offer. Some of my favourite sales have been those with the outstanding views, cliff-edge properties have a real wow-factor, and those on the Waterside are simply stunning too. I’ve sold a number of properties for over £1million, as well as at every other price point and 2020 was one of my busiest years to date.”
Paul Baxter, area director of the Harrogate District at Dacre, Son & Hartley, said: “Nick is a talented estate agent who works hard for his clients, and has the very best local knowledge and expertise.”
