Today marks the start of the 16th annual National Apprenticeship Week. Apprenticeship providers, colleges and employers across the country will be observing the week with various events, and Kirklees College is no exception.

Kirklees College employs over 1,000 apprentices across 1,000 employers every year. They are a top apprenticeship provider in West Yorkshire, and are key advocates for the training format in their region.

The theme for this year is ‘Skills for Life’, with a focus on equipping apprentices with the skills they need for their future. Therefore, this week, across the college’s seven specialist sites, apprentices, recruiters, assessors and employers are coming together to showcase the outstanding achievements of the college’s apprentices and highlight the benefits of the apprenticeship route.

The college will be engaging with its employer partners with an Apprenticeship Recruitment Fair for Engineering students to meet and discuss current and future opportunities with local employers, including AIG Fabrications, Aflex Hose, Chem Resist, Haribo, M Thornton Engineering, Sonoco Alcore, Terberg DTS, Westin Engineering and more.

Kirklees College will also be welcoming students from local schools to its Women in Construction event at its Brunel Construction Centre. Students from local schools will gain an insight into the fantastic Construction courses at Kirklees College and celebrate the increasing opportunities for women in construction amongst curriculum staff and local employer partners.

There will also be visits throughout the week from employers, such as Daisy Corporate Services to talk to students about various employment opportunities and workshops with the Careers team on degree apprenticeships, apprenticeships, CV workshops, interviews and transferable skills.

Lisa Buckley, assistant principal for Apprenticeships commented: “National Apprenticeship Week is a wonderful opportunity for educators, employers and apprentices that work with the college to promote apprenticeship opportunities across our community. We look forward to the week and celebrating just how wonderful apprenticeships can be”.
