Xscape Yorkshire has partnered up with two leading Yorkshire artists to encourage the county to get creative and craft their own Xscape logo – with the winner’s design used by the visitor attraction.
The Create Your Xscape competition is giving people the chance to design their own version of the brand’s logo. The winner will see Xscape use their logo on social media for the rest of 2021 to celebrate the phased reopening of its activities out of lockdown and will bag a bundle of prizes too.
Pontefract artist Rachel List, who painted a series of murals paying tribute to the NHS during lockdown one, is backing the project and says it’s all about keeping it simple.
“No idea is wrong,” said Rachel, 30. “If you’re struggling for inspiration and you're staring at a blank page wondering where to start my top tips are relax and keep it simple.
“Start with the first idea that pops into your head, as you can always try again. Then sketch out a few ideas before you attempt a final design. Most importantly have fun!”
The aim of the competition is for people, young and old, to show and celebrate all the things they have missed during lockdown and what they are most looking forward to doing again with friends and family once lockdown is lifted.
Fellow Leeds-based artist, Nicolas Dixon, is also encouraging people to get involved.
He said: “Be bold and brave, don’t be scared of colour. Instead embrace it and do what you feel is right. Rules are there to be broken so try it out. What’s the worst that can happen?
"You’ll know yourself if it sits right and if not try again until you get to the point when you are happy with your design. Good luck and I look forward to seeing these creations.”
