Wakefield Music Collective are celebrating Clarence Park Music Festival’s 30th Anniversary, with Clarence Roars! The 30th Party.

Founded in 1991, it is Yorkshire’s longest- running FREE outdoor music festival. The Collective are a small local community group whose volunteers have worked tirelessly over the years to bring the best in live music to Clarence Park.

Clarence Park Music Festival will take place over two days on the weekend of July 30th & 31st, 2022 at The Bandstand. Clarence Park, Denby Dale Road, Wakefield. It’s an annual ‘date in the diary’ for the residents of Wakefield district and beyond. Wakefield’s very own Party in the Park, attracting a mixed audience from ‘babes in arms’ to as old as you like!

Two stages for live music, plus DJ stage - the festival will host 22 bands (local, regional, and national) from different genres, e.g., pop. rock, electronica, folk, funk, plus Wakefield DJ Collective, playing continuous music from 12 noon to 9pm each day. There will also be Food vendors, Beer Tent, craft, and charity stalls.

The 1st Clarence Park Festival
On the 10thAugust 1991 The Muldoon’s opened the 1st Clarence Park Festival- Clarence Rocks Off, which was a one-day event back then.

Over the past 30 year’s Clarence Park Festival as played hosts to 100’s of bands and performers. Here’s a sample of some of them: Wrinkle – The Cribs first band, Britpop darlings - Dodgy, 80’s rock outfit Zodiac Mindwarp & The Love Reaction, ‘Madchester’ band Northside, Eddie and the Hot Rods, John Otway, The Solicitors, Malibu Stacey, Brick Supply, the local legends Quellerdrive. International performers including New Yorkers - Lord Bishop Rocks, Berlin based Faunshead & from France: Baltimore and Les Jocks.

One of the Collective’s original members: Andy Philpott is still part of the committee and hosts a weekly radio show on Rhubarb Radio. He will be showcasing tracks from some of the bands and performers playing at Clarence this year, also asking radio guests Rachel & Kate (Event Organisers) to talk about the festival on behalf of the Music Collective. Hopefully Rhubarb Radio will be broadcasting live from the festival site again this year.

Wakefield Music Collective is a not-for-profit volunteer run organisation who are grateful for the support we get from small grant funders, food & drink vendors, and our amazing sponsors – without them the festival could not go ahead.

Clarence Roars! The 30th Party is what we all are looking forward to this summer after the past 2 and a half years of coping with the Pandemic, it’s time to pop the champagne corks and celebrate. It’s not on the scale of the Platinum Jubilee, but a celebratory nod to the past 30 years: of amazing live music, of the pleasant surroundings of Clarence Park, of communities coming together, of chilling out, of not having to worry about anything, except that your beer is cold, or your old Pink Floyd T shirt still fits!

Remember the name: Clarence Roars! The 30th Party.
Remember the date: 30th & 31st July, 2022.
Remember where: Clarence Park, Denby Dale Road, Wakefield.
