A new star has arrived in Barnsley. Cineworld, the nation’s leading cinema chain, has announced that Cineworld Barnsley will open its doors to the public in September 2022. The new cinema, located in The Glass Works, will feature 13 state-of-the-art screens including an IMAX® with Laser auditorium, a multi-sensory 4DX extreme cinema experience and ScreenX, which is a 270-degree wrap-around screen that surrounds you in your seat. The cinema will also include an onsite Starbucks.

Alongside the Starbucks cafe, Cineworld concessions will offer a wide variety of snack favourites, including Rollover hot dogs, Candyking pick & mix and ICEE frozen drinks. The cinema will open in time for the highly anticipated re-release of Avatar (available in IMAX and 4DX), followed by blockbusters Black Adam and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Tickets are set to go on sale soon.

To prepare for the opening, Cineworld Barnsley is on a major recruitment drive and is inviting prospective employees to join them on July 30th at Oakwell, Barnsley FC Stadium, for an open day to apply to a number of roles at the new cinema. There are a variety of positions available including Cineworld Team Member roles, as well as Starbucks Barista roles. All roles are either a part or full-time basis.

Oli Cattanach, general manager, commented: “We can’t wait to bring the magic of cinema to Barnsley, a town which is famous for its cultural legacy and its profound appreciation for the arts. This next-generation cinema will serve as a cultural hub, offering the local community the very best place to watch a movie and more, with a brand new Starbucks located on the ground floor entrance. We’re looking for stars to join our team, so if you want to be part of this journey, come along to our open day. We look forward to introducing ourselves to the proud community of Barnsley and welcoming them through our doors in September.

Sir Steve Houghton, CBE, Leader of Barnsley Council, said: “The addition of Cineworld completes the high quality leisure offer we have created in The Glass Works, complemented by exciting new places to eat, drink, shop and relax. A major ambition of The Glass Works was to help us diversify the town centre offer and attract some of the very best high street brands. We are delighted and proud to have seen this really take shape over the last 12 months, with the likes of The Botanist, Fridays, Coffee Boy, Nando's, TK Maxx, Next, River Island, Flannels, and a great number of independents all locating in Barnsley. This is the culmination of lots of hard work by Council teams and our many partners and is a really exciting time for Barnsley town centre."

Cinema fans can take advantage of a range of offers at Cineworld Barnsley including discounted Movies for Juniors screenings for just £2.50 on Saturdays, Sundays, and school holidays, as well as the Cineworld family ticket where adults pay kids’ prices, and Student NUS discount. The cinema will also be available for private venue hire.
