Yorkshire’s newest leisure attraction, Superbowl UK, which has created 30 town centre jobs, is preparing for a week-long opening extravaganza.

Superbowl UK opens on Friday 15th October as part of The Glass Works, the new retail and leisure destination at the heart of Barnsley town centre.

The trendy 12 lane ten-pin bowling complex, which also features a family games centre, soft play, amusements and food and drink, is sure to be a big hit with people of all ages.

Launch events will take place in the new town square and an array of online competitions will be taking place on Superbowl UK’s Facebook page, @Superbowl UK Barnsley.

Over the next six months, numerous new bars, restaurants, shops and leisure attractions will open their doors to the public – including the highly anticipated arrivals of Cineworld, Nando’s and Flannels.

Last month, Barnsley’s newest public space – The Glass Works Square – opened alongside contemporary and spacious new stores for TK Maxx, Next and Sports Direct (with USC and Game).

The Fragrance Shop opened earlier this month and two new bars have been announced, both of which are expected to open before Christmas.

Barnsley was recently named in the Top 10 UK towns for footfall volume – that’s the number of people visiting the town centre. Buoyed by these excellent figures, the future looks bright for Barnsley’s newly regenerated town centre.

Superbowl UK marketing spokesperson George Smith said: “We chose to open in Barnsley because we know what a vibrant and popular place it is.

“We’re proud to be the first leisure operator opening at The Glass Works and we’re really looking forward to welcoming visitors. There will be something for all ages and we’ll be bringing the fun into The Glass Works Square.

“We’ve created 30 new jobs for local people and our Barnsley team are ready to welcome the community.”

Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture at Barnsley Council, said: “Superbowl UK is a great addition to The Glass Works and will provide a fun place for families and friends to get together.

“The Glass Works is taking shape and we are seeing really encouraging visitor numbers. Superbowl UK will expand the offer of Barnsley town centre even further – helping create an even busier, vibrant and more inviting destination.”

This autumn promises an exciting calendar of activity in the town centre, with new stores opening, visitor events such as our Halloween Trail and Bright Nights being finalised and existing attractions such as Barnsley Markets, Market Kitchen and Library @ The Lightbox continuing to gather momentum after numerous lockdowns.

The new public space will also be home to Barnsley’s acclaimed Covid memorial sculpture, which celebrates the unsung heroes of the pandemic. It will be unveiled in late November.
