This is Distorted have announced a paid internship programme, Sonic Youth, backed by Youth Music that will launch the production careers of two young people in Yorkshire who are passionate about audio and electronic music. The 8 month long scheme will start in January 2024 and will give 2 successful interns professional level production skills, access to industry networks, career coaching and a professional portfolio of work.

This is Distorted work with some of the biggest names in electronic music including Defected, Alok, Claptone, Nora En Pure, Sister Bliss, Deadmau5, Don Diablo and Korolova and are the biggest suppliers of electronic music radio programmes in the world.

Andi Durrant, director This Is Distorted & respected producer, DJ & broadcaster said, “At This Is Distorted we are passionate about our Yorkshire roots and want to nurture new production talent and help open doors into what is a notoriously difficult profession to break into.”

Rebecca Lamb-Pritchard head of marketing at This Is Distorted said, “In the last 10 years the digital advancements in audio have made it much easier and accessible for anyone to start creating music and shows. But, it has also led to the closure and streamlining of many regional radio stations, making it even more difficult for people starting out in music and audio to access industry level coaching and mentoring. We are proud to be partnering with Youth Music UK to ensure young people in Yorkshire are given the opportunities to nurture their talent and work in the music and audio industries”.

Matt Griffiths, Youth Music CEO says: “It’s crucial we enable more young people to make, learn and earn in music, whatever their background or goal. That’s why we’re excited to invest in innovative organisations like This is Distorted, who are leading the way with their dedication to diversifying music. It’s really inspiring to see their Sonic Youth initiative removing barriers into the music industries for young people in Yorkshire, and hope it prompts others to take proactive steps that will equalise the sector.”
