Glu Recruit, the South Yorkshire based recruitment agency, has set out its latest plans for growth by introducing a new graduate recruitment division. Developed during the lock-down period by MD, Rob Shaw, the new division is now being introduced to businesses around the Sheffield City Region.

Headed up by a new member of staff, Charlie Hedges, Glu is aiming to help bridge the gap between employers and graduates by providing advice and support to local businesses on how they can support graduates into employment and the benefits of having graduate talent within their organisation.

Rob comments: “The lock-down period gave us a chance to reflect on our long-term objectives. We’re always looking for ways we can diversify our service offering and setting up a graduate desk was the next logical area for us to develop.

“We have two strong Universities in Sheffield, along with other education establishments across the region also offering degrees, which means there are many graduate candidates on the market looking for work. It’s one of our key aims to help these candidates find work, but we also want to engage with them prior to finishing their courses to make sure they are as prepared for employment as possible. This is where Charlie comes in, who we are delighted to welcome to the Glu family!”

Charlie adds: “I’m delighted to be joining such a proactive recruitment agency. Having worked on a graduate desk in previous employment, the opportunity to develop this is something I am really looking forward to, as it will allow me to rekindle my relationships with the local Universities employment teams, as well as working alongside some of the fantastic businesses we have across the region.

“There are lots of sectors that offer graduate recruitment schemes as a way to develop their own talent. Regardless of whether they are a smaller start-up business or a larger, more established organisation, recruiting a graduate can allow businesses to mould their graduate employees to meet the long-term objectives of their business. Our role is to work alongside employers to help them find the best fit for their organisation, adding long-term value to the candidate and the business.

“We find that graduates have a very specific skill set that can complement what businesses are looking for, with many holding relevant qualifications within their chosen field. As well as having a fresh outlook and ambition to succeed with their chosen career path, there’s no better time to recruit a graduate. From a business perspective, it also gives employers a chance to train and develop their staff from the beginning, as well as offering increased value for money when it comes to recruitment budgets.”

Rob concludes: “Our new graduate recruitment desk will allow us to develop even more opportunities as we continue in our quest to become one of the leading recruitments agencies in the region. It complements our existing permanent, temporary and contract recruitment solutions, and will benefit our existing clients as well as making us a more attractive proposition to other business needing to recruit.

“With the government’s new ‘Kickstart scheme’, which provides financial support to businesses who provide opportunities for 16-24 year old this is a great opportunity for businesses to explore the opportunity of recruiting a graduate with less of a financial risk.”
