Top YouTuber Danny Malin the face of Rate My Takeaway was “emotional” after an exclusive meet and greet in Wakefield saw fans travel from far and wide to meet the online star.
Fans headed to the recently purchased The Ridings Shopping Centre in Wakefield to meet Yorkshire funny man Danny and were happy to wait up to three hours.
One fan in the queue from Barnsley said: “I missed the community we used to have until the pits closed. So it’s nice we can all be here together as part of Danny’s community.”
Another who had travelled from Northern Ireland with her husband said: “Every minute meeting Danny was worth it. We’re all less lonely because we follow him and watch his videos, he helps peoples mental health.”
43-year-old Danny who used to run care homes before working for Malcolm Michael’s butchers said he was overwhelmed and “humbled” with the turnout.
He said: “Seeing friends and even young people with disabilities that I used to support blew me away.
“I just want to make people happy whether I’m filming, on tv or radio or hosting an event.”
Danny shot to fame during the pandemic for his hilarious Covid videos before becoming a hit Youtuber with over 500 million views and over 600k subscribers.
He is regularly spotted throughout the UK and decided to host his latest event at The Ridings Shopping Centre as he regularly shops there with his family and is a director for social enterprise Sparkle.
He said: “I love the fayres and markets here as well as the antique shop, I feel at home with all the quirky things on the wall.”
Danny brought his motor home (his famous van) so fans could take a look inside and have a selfie. He added: “I love meet and greets because it is my fans who pay my bills and have got me where I am today.
Danny himself started from humble beginnings . He has gone from being a familiar face at Leeds Market to winning Youtube’s UK’s Breakthrough Creator of the Year Award 2021 confirming his popularity across the world for his down-to-earth candid food review videos.
