A North Yorkshire distillery has recruited a sales manager as demand for Yorkshire's first single malt whisky soars.

Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery has appointed Morgan McDermott from York to the new role of UK Sales Manager.

McDermott joins the Hunmanby based business from artisan spirits distillery, Sloemotion and first became aware of Filey Bay whisky when he managed the Michelin Bib Gourmand Restaurant, Skosh in York.

"I've always loved whisky and having the opportunity to work in such a highly regarded industry representing Yorkshire's fist single malt whisky distillery is really exciting. Learning in detail about every step of the field-to-bottle whisky production has made for an amazing induction. The complexity, care and attention to detail of the whole process is simply breath taking.

"It's a very exciting time to be joining the team at Spirit of Yorkshire, learning and working alongside such a passionate team has made for a really great start to the year. I'm really looking forward to working with some of the best whisky specialists, shops and bars in the country to grow sales and continue building on the strong foundations of the brand."

Spirit of Yorkshire's co-founder and MD, David Thompson is pleased to welcome McDermott to the team: "The English whisky market is growing rapidly and the demand for Yorkshire whisky is high. With Morgan's help, we're looking forward to extending our reach in both the retail and hospitality sectors."

Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery was launched in 2016 and is a collaboration between farmer and brewer, Tom Mellor from Wold Top Brewery and business partner, David Thompson.
