West Yorkshire Brass Band heads to Spain

Flat Cap Brass, based in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire have been selected to represent the United Kingdom amongst 8 other international bands at the Haizetara Street Musical Festival 2019 in the Biscay region of Spain.

Haizetara is an international street music contest organised by Ametx erakunde autonomoa; an autonomous cultural organisation under the authorities of Town Hall of Amorebieta-Etxano (Bizkaia) in Spain.

Yorkshire-based pop and funk brass band Flat Cap Brass will be travelling to Spain to compete against 8 other bands from the rest of the world from 20th – 22nd June. The winning band will scoop a €10,000 prize.

Flat Cap Brass was formed by musical directors Simon Jacobs and James Reevell when they started working together teaching A Level Music and Music Technology at Greenhead College in Huddersfield.

Simon Jacobs, who is also Head of Music at Greenhead stated that ‘the band are delighted to be able to represent Yorkshire and indeed the United Kingdom in Spain this summer. It is a fantastic opportunity for the band and we hope to be able to bring the title home to Huddersfield.’

He continues that ‘the band are really excited about the festival; we always promise to play funky, poppy, drum and brass songs in our own Yorkshire style, so we’re excited to take this to the streets of Spain in the summer.’
