Wakefield company, AES Ltd, wins prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise

A Wakefield-based company has announced its place amongst the crème de la crème of British business after winning a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise. AES Limited, headed by entrepreneur, James Fawkes, was honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade.

It is just one of 220 organisations nationally to be recognised for their contribution to International Trade, Innovation, Sustainable Development and Promoting Opportunity (through Social Mobility). Four of these businesses also won double awards.

Employing eleven members of staff, AES Limited was founded in 1992 and has become the leading global distributor and exporter of Harnessflex Conduit Systems, supplying products that protect critical electrical and electronic wiring cabling assemblies in the automotive industry. It currently serves 37 international markets.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise is the most influential business award in the UK and celebrates the success of exciting and innovative businesses that are leading the way with pioneering products or services, delivering impressive social mobility programmes or showing their commitment to excellent sustainable development practices.

“For a small business from Wakefield to share such an achievement with the giants of British industry is staggering, and we are just thrilled to have won this award,” explains James Fawkes. “I started this business in my 10 x 8-foot garden shed and spotted ‘a gap in the market’ to distribute conduit systems and connector interfaces that protect critical wiring in commercial and off-highway vehicles. Today, we are global leaders. It’s incredible just how far we have come and is testament to the skills and expertise of AES Limited’s employees. I would like to thank all staff members, both in the UK and in our US office; it’s a wonderful accomplishment for all the team!”

AES Limited will celebrate its award during a royal reception for Queen’s Awards winners in the summer.
