Theakston marks 20 years of Great Yorkshire Show support
Yorkshire Brewery T&R Theakston will again exhibit at this year’s Great Yorkshire Show, marking 20 years of its recent association with show organiser, Yorkshire Agricultural Society (YAS).
The Theakston stand, an attendee favourite, will be in its usual location for another year, with the brewery showcasing once again its range of legendary beers alongside its Theakston Paradise Gold cider and its Spirit of Old Peculier beer spirit.
As one of the last breweries in the country to have an in-house cooperage, Euan Findlay, Theakston’s Journeyman Cooper will also be performing live demonstrations of the historic craft of cask making.
Simon Theakston, joint managing director has been closely involved with the Yorkshire Agricultural Society since 1983, having taken on stewardship, trustee, board and Chairman roles in that time. He is currently the president of the society and will be overseeing this year’s show before handing over the Presidency in his last act at the end of the final day of the show on the Friday.
Starting on Tuesday 11th of July and running over four days, the Great Yorkshire Show – now in its 164th year – is a celebration of agriculture, food, farming and countryside. It is one of the biggest agricultural events in the UK and is set to welcome 140,000 visitors over its four days.
Simon commented: “We have always championed the agricultural industry, recognising the key role that Yorkshire farmers have played in supplying our company with finest quality barley from which to brew our famous beers for the near 200 years of our existence.
“We’re extremely proud of our long association with the Great Yorkshire Show and are looking forward to showcasing some of our range of beers, introducing customers to some exciting new products, and demonstrating the ancient art of coopering to a wider audience. The Great Yorkshire Show consistently showcases the best of Yorkshire food, farming and countryside to locals and visitors alike, and we’re sure that this year will be no exception.”
Allister Nixon CEO of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society said: “The Great Yorkshire Show celebrates the diverse brilliance of Yorkshire’s thriving food and drink scene from field to fork, and with 128,000 hectares of barley grown in our great county, beer production is an important part of the agricultural supply chain.
“As such, we are enormously grateful to Simon and Theakston Brewery for their longstanding support of the Yorkshire Agricultural Society and the Great Yorkshire Show. It is wonderful to see T&R Theakston go from strength to strength whilst keeping alive the heritage craft of coopering, which makes for a fascinating spectacle at the Show. We wish Simon a wonderful Show as our President.”
