With much of the country in lock down and self-isolation the Yorkshire Academy of Film and Television Acting (YAFTA) has quickly adapted its services to continue to operate for its students.

After teaching face to face classes in five towns and cities across the region for over six years, the Academy has moved the weekly classes online with resounding success.

Charlotte Armitage, YAFTA Founder and Managing Director said: “We were determined from the outset to provide whatever support and services we could to our students. Both the team and students responded so positively and proactively when the decision was made to go online, and we’ve been delighted with the feedback. Whether you’re an existing YAFTA student or never attended a class before, we’d encourage people to give it a go and join in!”

One student, Abi Hindmarch said: “Being able to still attend the class was really helpful to keep the acting muscles working and also learn more about how to audition online. Our teacher, David was fab as always!”

As well as being YAFTA’s MD, Charlotte is also a Business Psychologist and Doctoral Counselling Psychologist in training and is passionate about promoting and supporting the positive mental wellbeing of her students. Charlotte adds:“Taking part in group activities and maintaining a regular schedule and routine will be really imperative in helping to combat feelings of isolation and anxiety during these uncertain times and will be vital in maintaining psychological health. Alongside the classes we’re also hosting free online support groups for our students to discuss their anxieties about their careers and the current situation.

Whilst the creative industry, like many others are facing challenging times, we’re determined to take a positive attitude to our current situation and will continue to be here to support the acting dreams of our students.”

The classes are hosted by trained and experienced tutors through the Zoom platform, with students taking part in interactive classes.

Further workshops with leading industry pros including Coronation Street Director, Ian Bevitt, Emmerdale Actor and Director Reece Dinsdale and Casting Directors will also be hosted online over the coming weeks.

Acting classes take place throughout the week suitable for adults or teens, whether you are a beginner or more experienced actor. For further details or to book classes, head to www.yafta.co.uk
