Martin Walsh Architectural (MWA), the Dewsbury-based Architects, has been named Regional Winner at the LABC West Yorkshire Building Excellence Awards 2018.
Winning ‘Best Individual New Home’ with its stunning ‘one-off’ Sands Lane property in Mirfield’s green belt, the impressive glass and Oak framed detached dwelling overlooks Dewsbury District Golf Club and took the top prize thanks to a successful partnership between MWA, Paragon Oak and SIP Build UK.
The LABC West Yorkshire Building Excellence Awards, which were attended by 220 industry professionals, rewards excellent buildings, outstanding companies, partnerships and individuals that go that extra mile.
MWA will now go up against the North, East and South Yorkshire winners to qualify for a place at the Grand Finals, taking place on Friday 9th November at Park Plaza Westminster Bridge in London.
Marcus Walsh, director at MWA, comments: “I am delighted to win such a prestigious award. It’s a reflection of just how hard our team works and everyone is now gearing up to the final.
“Looking back, designing the Sands Lane property wasn’t easy. The building would not have worked structurally had there not been a crucial collaboration between SIPs and the oak frame design, which knitted the shell structure together. There were also complex planning issues to overcome to allow a building in the green belt. Thankfully, our persistence paid off.”
“The client is very happy with the final result and has just started the external landscaping, which should be complete by the end of the summer.”
