Leading Harrogate-based audio engineer Dave Swallow has recently turned his hand to streetwear fashion following a hugely successful career in the music industry. Dave previously worked on live shows with stars such as the late Amy Winehouse, Corrine Bailey Rae and Billy Ocean and has lectured at universities including York, Nottingham and Birmingham.
Working in the live production industry since 1997 as a Front of House audio engineer, Dave finetuned the musical mechanics for acts including La Roux, Fleur East, DJ Fresh and Death from Above 1979. His projects have taken him across international waters; working on shows for old-school favourites Basement Jaxx and UB40 at some of the biggest venues and festivals in the world. He’s also worked on a number of notable live TV shows including Good Morning America, Jay Leno and the MTV Movie Awards.
In 2010, Dave added author to his list of achievements with the release of his first book – Live Audio: the art of mixing a show – published by Focal Press. Since then he’s also turned his hand to helping young audio professionals in training and working on the development of audio courses. He became the audio course leader at Backstage Academy, part of Bolton University, developing the sound engineering requirement of their degree course and has guest lectured at several other UK universities, sharing his specialist industry knowledge and experience.
Dave Swallow, Audio Architect Apparel’s CEO explained the idea behind his streetwear brand: “I want to tell the story of music technology. Music and technology have gone hand in hand ever since we started making music, we celebrate the music why not the tech? Imagine a world without the guitar… No Hendrix, no Led Zeppelin, and who wants to live in that world? It’s for those of us who like to be different. It’s for those of us who think far more than they probably should about things.
“Everything that we design has some meaning in the story of music. It’s clever, subtle, stylish design with a passion in imagination, integrity in intellect and it’s an instrument of individualism.”
Audio Architect Apparel is already achieving global popularity, and now offers free shipping on its products and special discounts for bands, musicians and crew members
