Leeds-based publishing software developer Publish Interactive has started a crowdfunding initiative in conjunction with city-centre health food supplier Lean Lunch to deliver healthy and nutritious meals to staff on the frontline of the virus outbreak at Leeds General Infirmary.

Publish Interactive, based at Marshall’s Mill on the South Bank, are calling on all businesses and individuals in the Leeds City Region to help support the project by donating what they would spend on staff lunches during normal operation to the cause. This will not only support local food businesses but also provide NHS staff healthy and nutritious meals that are vital for boosting the immune system.

The management team at Publish Interactive decided that it wanted to continue to dedicate their normal weekly lunch budget to LeedsLean Lunch, which has supplied Publish Interactive’s lunches for the past five years.

With a portion of their business coming from corporate catering, Lean Lunch has been impacted by the pandemic as remote working has become the new norm for office workers. Lean Lunch will do their part to help in the effort to fight the virus by providing the meals at cost and delivering them to our frontline NHS staff.

The goal of the initiative is to raise £12,000 initially to deliver 3000 meals to Leeds General Infirmary. The project has the scope to scale to deliver more meals, use more local suppliers and deliver to different locations should the target be exceeded.

Mitali Mookerjee, Managing Director of Publish Interactive commented: “At Publish Interactive, we wanted to ensure that our staff had access to healthy and nutritious lunches throughout the week as we believe this is key to health and wellbeing.”

“As we are now working from home during the pandemic, we wanted to continue to support a local small business but also to do what we can our frontline NHS staff, who are risking their lives each day for the sake of our health. We are calling on other Leeds businesses and individuals who are willing to donate to ensure NHS workers are provided with readily prepared immune-boosting meals.”

The project is ready to start immediately, with Publish Interactive’s initial donation for this month, along with individual donations made by Publish Interactive staff, friends, and family kicking off the provision of the meals to LGI.
