Pub to go under the hammer as redevelopment opportunity

The Shoulder of Mutton pub in Morley is to go up for auction, appearing in auctioneer Pugh’s online property sale in June.

A pub since the early 19th century and now vacant, the property is being sold as a development prospect, with planning consent already in place to demolish the building and replace it with a new residential property.

The five-bedroom former pub is on a quarter-acre site on Morley’s Howden Clough Road and has been given a guide price of £150,000.

The online property auction, which includes dozens of commercial and residential properties and plots of land across the UK, will open at 10am on 2 June, with registration closing at 12.50pm the same day.

Pugh managing director, Paul Thompson, said: “The Shoulder of Mutton was a well-loved pub and it would be great to see the site become an asset to the community once again as much-needed residential accommodation.
“The property is on a large site in a thriving residential neighbourhood, and just six miles from Leeds and Huddersfield and a mile from the M621 and M62 motorways. It also already has the necessary planning consent in place for residential redevelopment, so it really is an excellent development opportunity and not surprisingly we are already seeing a great deal of interest in it.”
