Pontefract Football Club scores new sponsor

Barratt Homes has recently become a proud sponsor of Pontefract Collieries FC, supporting ongoing improvements at the club’s stadium.

Pontefract Collieries FC is home to 57 teams, ranging from under-six football sessions to adult teams. The club also offers SEND football sessions and boasts a thriving girls’ and women’s section, including four open-age women’s teams.

Established in 1958, the club was formed by miners from the Prince of Wales Colliery, who built the stadium the club still plays in today. While the club has made significant improvements to the original foundations, many elements of its rich history remain visible throughout the ground.
With many teams based at the club, training takes place most nights of the week on its newly developed FIFA Pro 3G pitch. With this season now underway, there are still plenty of matches ahead, meaning Barratt Homes’ support will continue to benefit Pontefract Collieries FC right through to the end of the season in April.

Charlie Fletcher, head of social media at Pontefract Collieries FC, said: “We are incredibly grateful for this sponsorship and the support it brings to our club. Any support is vital for us to continue to provide a facility for the local community.

“This sponsorship is especially important this year, as we’ve undertaken a major stadium development project. We have had to put out a big outlay to get this project over the line, so this has been vital in helping us.
“We are always thankful for companies who support us, as a CIC we really value all our commercial partners. It’s also great to see housebuilders investing in the communities where they build as it shows they are building communities not just houses.”

Barratt Homes contributed £800 in sponsorship to Pontefract Collieries FC, supporting both the development of the club’s stadium and its wider community initiatives. One such initiative is the Pontefract Food Hub, launched by the club during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. The food hub continues to provide regular support to 25 families and has become a vital resource for the local community during challenging times.

Gavin Birch, managing director at Barratt Homes Yorkshire West, said: “Pontefract Collieries FC has a proud history and a strong community spirit which are values that align perfectly with our own. We’re delighted to support a club that continues to make a real difference both on and off the pitch.”

The football club is located near Barratt Homes’ upcoming developments Sandy Gate View and De Lacy Mews in Pontefract. The developments are ideally located with excellent commuter links to Wakefield and Leeds and in close proximity to top-rated schools.
