New major attractions at Xscape

Two major new sky high activities worth around £750,000 are set to launch at one of Yorkshire’s biggest tourist attractions.

Yorkshire’s first Sky Coaster, which whisks visitors around via a wire on their back 70 feet in the air, will be just one new experience coming to Xscape Yorkshire as part of Gravity Aerial Adventures’ trio of experiences located at the front of the centre.

Free-Fall Tower will see people able to jump from a colossal tower in a thrill similar to bungee jumping and brave souls can take on the Leap of Faith too, where visitors leap from a platform and try to grab on to a giant padded column or face plummeting (safely) below.

Gravity Rocks is the second planned new arrival set to be built at the rear of the centre. It will offer a creative climbing experience where climbers of all levels can challenge themselves on a series of themed walls – ideal timing with climbing being included in the Olympics for the first time in 2020.

Both new activities – which will create 20 new jobs – are the brainchild of the hugely successful Gravity trampoline park, which was one of the first to open in the UK when it bounced into Xscape Yorkshire back in 2015.

Xscape Yorkshire turns 15 this year and the two new major activities will help solidify the tourist attraction as one of the biggest in England after it welcomed 4.2million in 2017 – its second best year ever.

Michael Harrison, Gravity’s Director and COO, said: “We’ve long been a key part of Xscape Yorkshire and thanks to the success we’ve had here, we’re now investing in more new adrenaline-pumping experiences for visitors to come and enjoy.

“Climbing is on the up – literally – so it made sense for us to bring this urban climbing experience that comes with a twist as the walls are more like works of art and much more engaging than just grasping for holds. With climbing making its debut in the Olympics in 2020 and participation on the rise, it makes sense to be part of that momentum.”

Jason Warren, General Manager of Xscape Yorkshire, said: “It’s an exciting time for Xscape as we’ve just had our second best year ever in terms of footfall, we’re celebrating our 15th anniversary and now we have some incredible, ground-breaking new activities to help bring even more people to the centre.

“Xscape has always been about offering something different that’s accessible and these exciting new additions firmly follow in these footsteps. Gravity and Xscape are perfect partners as we share the same vision and ethos when it comes to tourism and we’re delighted they’re investing further in the centre.

“Management is all about delegation so I might send the team up on the Sky Coaster first – it looks very high!”

All activities are set to open this summer.
