On Tuesday 24 January, music organisations PRS for Music and PPL will host an exclusive music business panel in Sheffield as part of Independent Venue Week.

Open to all, this is a special opportunity for local musicians, songwriters and performers to hear from music industry experts and artists about the business side of the industry, what companies like PRS for Music and PPL can do for music creators, and the career options available to those wanting to get into other aspects of the industry such as artist management or promoting.

Professionals with hands-on experience from across the music business will explain the importance of protecting your music rights, as well as imparting valuable knowledge about the various ways that creating and performing music can generate an income.

Speaking on the ‘Feedback: Music + Business’ panel are: Artist Manager Sarah Brooksbank (Bat For Lashes, Fat White Family); Davy Wales, Performer Development Specialist at PPL; and Dan Jones, Education and Outreach Manager at PRS for Music.

Hosting venue, The Harley, has played a huge part in the vibrancy and success of the music scene in Sheffield by supporting and providing a platform for local talent. After the panel, Sheffield aggro-beat rock trio, Blood Sport, will be performing at the venue at 7.30pm with free-entry for all ‘Feedback: Music + Business’ attendees.

Kate Hewett, Promotor at The Harley, said: “We’re really pleased to host this panel on the music industry. Sheffield has such a magnificent music scene, so it’s great to see Independent Venue Week, PRS for Music and PPL partner up to host an event here and really support the local talent.”

Panellist Sarah Brooksbank, said: “Music venues like The Harley can be the first step in a long career for many songwriters and performers, which makes it the perfect place to host a talk offering valuable advice from PRS for Music and PPL to anyone who wants to get involved in the music industry.”
