Two local dog charities in desperate need of support have received a welcome donation of much needed dog food from Tadcaster based grab hire company, RJC Plant Services.

Miss Mollies Pet Rescue based in Harrogate and Woodhaven Second Chance in South Milford are both non-profit, no-kill volunteer-led dog rescue centres and have faced difficult times over the last year, with a significant reduction in donations despite an increase in the demand for their services.

Chris Jackson, Co-Director of RJC Plant Services, and who has adopted three rescue dogs said: “April is National Pet Month across the UK. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the nation’s love of animals but also raise awareness on key issues around pet care, neglect, theft and the ongoing support needed for the charities who work in the sector, just like Miss Mollies and Woodhaven.”

Jeanne Thompson, founder of the Harrogate based centre adds: “With over 28 rescue dogs to look after, we go through a lot of food every day. As a volunteer-run charity that has faced a really difficult year, we really rely on the public and businesses like RJC helping with donations to keep the rescue centre open.”

Lucy Oxberry from Woodhaven said: “Owning a dog has become incredibly popular over this last year, however, it has meant that some breeds have fallen out of favour and we’ve had a number brought to us as strays. It has unfortunately also led to an increase in dogs being abandoned once owners realise how much care and support is required to really look after their pet.”

As part of RJCs ongoing commitment to supporting those in need in the community, the business wanted to champion a cause close to their hearts, with many of the team being dog owners themselves.

John Harrison said: “Dog food isn’t our usual delivery material, but as a team of dog lovers, we wanted to do something to help support Miss Mollies and Woodhaven who have faced challenging times over the last 12 months. We hope this food will be a big help to the charities.”

RJC, which is based in Church Fenton near Tadcaster is continuing to collect donations for the dog rescue charity from their base including blankets and food for the dogs. If you would like to donate, please contact www.rjcplantservices.com or www.missmolliesrescue.org.uk
