Local firm donation sees primary school bloom
RJC Plant Services, a leading provider of grab hire and aggregate supplies, has donated a tonne of topsoil to Cawood C of E Primary for a special planting project to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles.
The school will use the topsoil to fill the raised garden beds which were created from old wooden tables by the school’s caretaker, to plant a variety of native wildflower seeds including cornflower, corn poppy, corn marigold and night flowering catchfly, which were gifted by the Eden Project as part of the King’s Coronation celebrations.
The students will care for the plants throughout the summer as part of their Eco Warrior project involving looking after the school gardens and improving the outdoor space.
"When we saw the SOS callout on social media by a member of the school, we were delighted to support them with this donation of topsoil," said Zena Jackson, Company Secretary at RJC. “Teaching children about gardening and the environment is incredibly important, and the Coronation is such an historical occasion, we're thrilled to be able to contribute to their learning in this way."
Nicholas Payling, Headteacher at the school added: “We are very grateful for the generosity of local firms like RJC Plant Services who are so supportive of the school and pupils. We rely on donations such as this and we’re delighted we have the flowerbeds all ready for the Coronation weekend and look forward to seeing them bloom over the summer.”
The topsoil donation is part of RJC’s ongoing commitment to supporting community organisations and good causes. The firm is a finalist in the upcoming Yorkshire Choice Awards for Most Charitable Business and were shortlisted in BBC Radio York’s Make a Difference awards last year.
