Leeds Playhouse has today announced they’ll be hosting open auditions to cast young people to play the roles of Dorothy and the Young Ensemble in their much-loved family musical The Wizard of Oz opening later this year. This is a fantastic opportunity for young actors to perform in the first Christmas production in the Playhouse’s newly refurbished Quarry theatre.
The theatre is looking for girls to play the iconic role of Dorothy Gale and a company of young people to take on roles such as the Munchkins. The Playhouse is actively looking to recruit a company which reflects the diversity of the Leeds City Region and would encourage applications from young people regardless of background or ethnicity for all roles.
This spectacular new production is based on the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and the iconic 1939 film starring Judy Garland. Directed by Artistic Director James Brining (Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, 2015) the production will feature the songs ‘If I Only Had a Brain’, ‘Follow the Yellow Brick Road’ and ‘Over the Rainbow’ and forms part of the Christmas offer at the Playhouse in the theatre’s reopening season following a period of Capital Redevelopment.
The Wizard of Oz will play in Leeds Playhouse’s Quarry Theatre from 20 November 2019 – 25 January 2020.
Booking will be open via the Playhouse’s website and through their Box Office on Wednesday 15 May at 10am. Audition slots are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Further information is available on Leeds Playhouse’ website.
