Young people across the nation are being encouraged to get creative as part of a new ‘home build’ competition launched by Leeds-based cast plasterer, Ryedale Interiors.
Open to children and young adults between the ages of four and 16, the competition calls for entrants to build a model of their favourite building or place using only the materials or craft supplies they have access to within their homes and gardens.
Entrants are encouraged to take pictures or record videos of their projects, and write a brief description of why they chose their materials.
Entries will be judged by the firm’s team of talented craftspeople, with £25 vouchers going to the youngsters that demonstrate the best use of materials and a true creative flare.
Ryedale Interiors is a multi-award-winning manufacturer and installer of high-quality, bespoke glass reinforced gypsum and fibrous plasterwork with successful projects including Channel 4 headquarters at The Majestic, Leeds, Leeds, Barton Square at Intu Trafford Centre, and Resorts World Birmingham.
Roger Hannon, managing director of Ryedale Interiors hopes that the competition will inspire youngsters to learn about different materials in a fun but educational way, whilst enabling budding manufacturers to get creative during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Roger comments:“We are lucky to have a team of talented craftspeople who work on creative fibrous cast plasterwork projects, and it was their talent that inspired me to launch this competition.
“With children remaining home from school we wanted to offer something exciting for them to get involved with, showcase their creative flair and be recognised for their efforts.”
Roger continued: “By letting them choose their own materials, whether that’s toilet roll tubes, cardboard, tubs, lego and/or sticks from the garden, we are getting them to learn about the different materials and uses things around our homes and gardens have; hopefully stimulating an interest about how buildings and features are designed and created.
”We can’t wait to share the projects across social media and raise awareness of the talented youngsters in the UK.”
To enter, participants should upload pictures or videos of their projects to social media platforms using the #HomeBuild hashtag. The deadline to submit entries is midnight on Friday 8th May.
