Leading Scottish law firm moves into Leeds
Leading Scottish law firm Brodies LPP has expanded into Leeds, taking quality Grade A office space at the recently refurbished 7 Park Row in the heart of the city.
Brodies, which has recently acquired Leeds-based lawyers Barton Legal, are moving into the eighth floor of 7 Park Row on a five-year lease.
The deal was brokered by James Jackson of property consultancy Carter Towler.
He commented: “The arrival of prominent UK law firm Brodies LLP at 7 Park Row is a resounding endorsement of the comprehensive multi-million-pound refurbishment which has just been completed at this special building.
“The transformation of 7 Park Row undertaken by the landlords has been superb, whereby Grade A, amenity driven, fully fitted and CAT A office suites have been created in the heart of Leeds’s professional core.”
The work was undertaken by Firefly Capital Real Estate and Augur Group, who jointly acquired 7 Park Row in June 2024.
James Jackson explained: “The magnificent refurbishment of 7 Park Row has paid immediate dividends. Apart from the Brodies deal, Gridtec, a leading multi-disciplined engineering infrastructure business, has taken a ninth-floor suite on a five-year lease.
“There is now strong interest in the remaining space on the seventh floor with the opportunity to tailor a fitout to suit on the sixth floor, either as a whole or in part. The seventh floor is fitted and extends to 3,077 sq ft, while the 4,656 sq ft sixth floor provides luxury bespoke fitted suites to suit the needs of tenants.”
“The 50,000 sq ft Grade A office building is situated in a prime location, a short walk from Leeds railway station. Park Row famously connects the financial and retail districts of the City Centre and is one of the most sought-after business addresses in Leeds.”
Elizabeth Ridler, partner with the Leeds office of property consultancy Knight Frank, who are the joint marketing agents of 7 Park Row, added: “A stunning new reception featuring soft seating, breakout areas and touchdown space, as well as upgraded amenities including a gym, fitness studio, showers, lockers and changing facilities, provides first-class comfort and functionality for tenants, creating an inspiring and productive workplace environment. Super high-speed internet is now available instantly via a new plug and play connection.
“We have also launched the marketing of basement floor which will provide around 10,000 sq ft of space suitable for a variety of uses including leisure, medical and education. The newly configured space will have a capacity for up to 200 people and will be accessed via a new highly prominent double height entrance on Park Row.
“Park Row has also been enhanced by the pedestrianization of City Square, the planting of trees and the widening of pavements on Park Row, making it an exceptionally attractive street.”
Brodies is expanding into Leeds by absorbing local firm Barton Legal as the Scottish firm seeks to build out its construction practice. The Leeds opening is the firm’s second office in England and first outside of London. The eight-strong incoming team includes partner and Barton Legal founder Bill Barton, who has specialised in contentious and non-contentious construction law for more than 30 years.
Stephen Goldie, Brodies’ managing partner, said the firm now served a growing number of construction-sector clients operating in the north of England and across the UK.
