The popularity of vocational qualifications is growing with an increased demand for high skilled technical employees and new government initiatives raising their profile.

As one of the leading vocational college’s in the area, Kirklees College is passionate about equipping young people with the relevant practical skills to progress in their chosen career. To showcase the benefits of occupational qualifications, the college will be hosting Virtual Open Days this month to support prospective students considering this route.

Open to 16-18-year-old students, parents and carers, the Virtual Open Days will take place from Tuesday 16 March – Saturday 20 March 2021. Each virtual event will be dedicated to different subject areas, including Animal Care, Business, Construction, Creative Industries, Hair and Beauty, Health and Social Care, Motor Vehicle, Public Services, Sports and Travel and Tourism.

The webinars will take place via the Kirklees College website, where people will be able to book on to live subject talks, watch new virtual centre tours, chat with tutors and learn more about apprenticeships. Staff will also be available to guide students through the application process, work experience opportunities, student support services and answer any questions.

Helen Rose, Director of External Relations at Kirklees College, said: “We have received very positive feedback about our previous virtual events showcasing our vocational offering. As a result of the pandemic, there is set to be an increase in demand for skilled workers in certain sectors and we hope these events will provide an insight into how our study programmes are preparing young people to address these skills shortages.”
