Leeds based house builder, Chartford Homes, has acquired a prime development site in Burley in Wharfedale that will form a key part of the transformation of the historic Greenholme Mills site into a thriving residential scheme.
The 1.5-acre site was marketed by Dacres Commercial, on behalf of development company, MMR Estates and has planning permission for 20 luxurious, three and four bedroom, homes as well as six contemporary affordable apartments. Chartford Homes now plans to start work on the development immediately.
Greenholme Mills operated as a successful textile mill from 1790 until 1967, and its location next to the River Wharfe made it the largest water-powered mill in England.
Following this latest land sale, the entire estate will now be fully redeveloped, with MMR Estates already transforming the former mill buildings into a range of unique one, two and three bedroom apartments, which will launch in September.
Chris Thompson, managing director at Chartford Homes, said: “Burley in Wharfedale is a highly sought-after village for homebuyers with good schools, a railway station and a great selection of local amenities. It is also surrounded by fantastic countryside, which this site takes full advantage of with riverside walks on the doorstep, down to Burley in Wharfedale’s stepping-stones and across to Asquith, Denton and beyond.
“When this is combined with Chartford Homes’ next-level craftsmanship, attention to detail and experience in creating inspiring new neighbourhoods, there’s no doubt this will be a place people will love to live. We are now looking forward to commencing work on site, with the first homes due to be released for sale towards the end of this year.”
Matthew Brear, senior associate at Dacres Commercial, said: “Completing this sale to Chartford Homes, following a strategically targeted marketing campaign, is extremely pleasing. Chartford’s attention to detail and high-quality finish will complement MMR Estates’ sympathetic redevelopment of the historic mill buildings perfectly.”
“The site has the added benefit of being just off the Burley bypass, but it’s just a short, pleasant walk from the centre of Burley in Wharfedale, through the underpasses that cross the A65, as well as being located in a rural area overlooking the River Wharfe and the countryside beyond, which will all make it a fantastic place to call home.”
