Heck Food appoints Yorkshire accountancy firm

Family-run gourmet sausage brand Heck Food has appointed Yorkshire accountancy firm Garbutt + Elliott, as the company looks to further expand its range of vegetarian and vegan products.

Founded five years ago by Debbie and Andrew Keeble, the Bedale-based business now has a turnover of £17.5m and employs 106 people. Its products are stocked in supermarkets Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose, as well as sold from its own online store.

Originally launched with a product range of gourmet pork sausages, Heck Food has since diversified into ranges of chicken burgers, chicken and turkey sausages, sauerkraut, and vegetarian and vegan balls.

York and Leeds-based accountancy firm Garbutt + Elliott will provide financial advice and support to help the company further expand its range into vegetarian and vegan soups and broths. Its growth ambitions follow the opening of a new £3.5m production facility in 2017, which created 75 jobs in the region and now produces more than 700 sausages per minute.

Commenting on Garbutt + Elliott’s appointment, co-founder of Heck Food, Debbie Keeble, said: “We hired Garbutt + Elliott because both of our businesses are forward thinking, personable and pride ourselves on exceptional service. The fact that we share the same culture and values really is key to our partnership.

“We’re proud to have grown such a successful and well-recognised brand so quickly and we have real ambitions for the future. Our future growth will be driven by expanding further with new product ranges, so we’re excited to use the team’s guidance to capitalise on new sectors and markets.”

Garbutt + Elliott advises entrepreneurial and fast-growth businesses throughout Yorkshire across a range of sectors. Its food and drink clients include Chaophraya Thai Restaurants, frozen vegetable producer JE Hartleys, farming business Ibbotsons, The Quayside restaurant and Kennedy’s Bar.

Richard Feltham, partner at Garbutt + Elliott, said: “Heck Food is an incredibly impressive Yorkshire success story in a sector which is important to the region and one in which we particularly specialise. This is an exciting time to be helping Heck achieve its continued growth and expansion plans.

“Every business needs strategic guidance on securing finances, but what sets us apart is that we build strong client relationships and get to the heart of their needs. We look forward to working with Heck Food and going on the journey with them.”
