Last week, Sheffield DJ James Cusack, was selected from thousands of demos to present daytime shows during the Christmas and New Year break at BBC Radio 1, as part of their new presenter talent search.

James said; “I started my radio career at my local Children’s Hospital on the in-hospital radio station there. I’ve been grafting since school and first wrote to Radio 1 when I was 10 years old. I've kept hold of the letter I received back then – so thanks to the Radio 1 big boss at the time, Ben, for writing back, not only did I keep the letter, but I kept on going too.”

Besides presenting, James regularly finds himself DJ’ing and has opened for the likes of CamelPhat, Gorgon City and Tinie Tempah. Pre-lockdown, he was hosting his own hotly-attended indie night in Leeds.

James said: “To get this opportunity now is a dream come true and I can’t wait to be on air.”

You can catch James presenting Radio 1 Anthems on Thurs 31st Dec 2pm-6pm and on Fri 1st Jan 2021, 12pm-4pm.
