Exciting relaunch for the University Centre at Wakefield College (UCW)
The University Centre at Wakefield College (UCW) has an exciting new look following a major rebrand. Based at the College’s City Campus, the new look UCW brand was formally launched during a recent ribbon cutting ceremony.
Wakefield College principal, Sam Wright, said: “The launch of our new UCW brand here at Wakefield College is an exciting development in our provision of higher education in Wakefield. The ability to access high quality, degree level qualifications in Wakefield City Centre is incredibly important to the residents of the district in terms of their future employment goals and, more widely, offers support to the economic growth of the region.
Director of higher education, Clare Hagerup, added, “We have an incredibly diverse student population, and you can frequently find students of 18 and students in their 40s and 50s in the same classroom sharing experiences and knowledge and providing incredible levels of support to each other as they progress through their studies. Our small class sizes mean that our tutors can offer tailored support to our students, working with colleagues from our HE Student Support Team to try and ensure that each and every student achieves their goals.’’
Staff and students at UCW also had further reasons to smile after the latest National Student Satisfaction (NSS) results gave it an overall satisfaction rate of 86% placing it fourth highest in Yorkshire ahead of most major universities. UCW was also ahead of the national average in 8 out 9 categories.
Wakefield College has provided university-level education for more than 20 years and works alongside awarding bodies and partner universities to offer students aged 18 and over various qualifications including HNDs, Foundation Degrees and full BA/BSc honours degrees.
The new UCW relaunch is an initiative to encourage more people to study university-level qualifications and benefit from lower fees and small class sizes compared to many universities. According to the Wakefield State of the District Report 2021, only 28% of Wakefield residents currently hold a Level 4 qualification which is below both the Leeds City Region (34%) and England (40%).
Applications for degree level courses are still open and enrolments begin later this month for courses starting in September 2021. For more information about the University Centre at Wakefield College, please visit www.wakefield.ac.uk/HE
