Digital marketing firm Ascensor have completed the gruelling Race the Sun event to raise £6,300 for Action Medical Research.
The challenging dawn to dusk endurance event, held in the Brecon Beacons, involved months of training for three teams of four from Ascensor, who took part alongside 38 other teams and individual participants from across the UK.
Andrew Firth, MD of Leeds-based Ascensor explains: “This was a mammoth event. It involved starting at sunrise - cycling 55 miles and hiking for 12 miles to the summit of Pen Y Fan, all before sunset, racing against the sun. Normally there would have been two miles of canoeing, but due to conditions on the lake this was stopped at the last minute, and an additional four miles was added to the hike.”
He adds: “We are thrilled to have raised more than £6,300 in valuable funds for Action Medical Research. They are a leading UK charity, funding vital research to help the diseases that devastate the lives of sick and disabled babies, children and young people.”
“We trained hard for this event, which is just as well because we completed the course in hot, sunny and humid conditions. We all needed to be fit enough to cross the finishing line before sunset.”
“We set ourselves an ambitious fundraising target and each member of the team took personal responsibility for fundraising with their family and friends. We also appreciate many generous contributions from our clients and key suppliers.”
“Every donation has counted towards our awesome total. We achieved over 117% of our fundraising target and actually raised the most funds out of any company participating on the day, making a large contribution towards the Race the Sun event, which raised over £61,000.
Commenting on Race the Sun, Lucy Holloway, Challenge Events Fundraiser at Action Medical Research said:
“A big thank you to Ascensor for all their support! They have raised £6,300 which will make a huge difference to the lives of children, babies and their families. Our research and progress would not have been possible without the support and fundraising from people like the team at Ascensor.”
Andrew adds: “Ascensor have supported many charities over the years, raising money for good causes, and providing pro bono and subsidised services. We actively encourage our team to support causes that are close to their hearts; Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is very important to us.”
