Dewsbury Community Street Kitchen (DCSK), a charitable cause which helps feed and clothe people in need in Kirklees, has welcomed a new sponsor in the form of Gusieley-based replacement number plate supplier Number 1 Plates.

The sponsorship comes following an appeal by Dewsbury Community Street Kitchen for support from local businesses to help cover the costs associated with running the street kitchen, which includes the cost of a storage unit used to safely store donations of clothes, shoes and toiletries.

On the sponsorship, Reverend Andrew Cass, Founder of Dewsbury Community Street Kitchen, said: “We’re delighted to receive this ongoing sponsorship from Number 1 Plates, and would like to thank them for their kind gesture.

“We are wholly reliant on donations and sponsorship, and we couldn’t operate without the generosity of others.

“Over the last 12 months, we’ve seen a significant increase in demand, with more and more people falling on hard times through no fault of their own.

“We are incredibly grateful to businesses such as Number 1 Plates, as well as our regular donors which include takeaways, supermarkets, manufacturers and convenience stores, who all ensure that we can help those who need it most. ”

Aldan Ibbetson, Managing Director of Number 1 Plates commented: “Dewsbury Community Street Kitchen is a fantastic cause, and when it was brought to our attention that they were in need of sponsorship, we felt compelled to help out in any way we could.

“We’re fortunate that coronavirus has not impacted on our business, but we know that it has had a significant impact on the lives of many in our communities, which is why supporting causes such as this, particularly in this current climate, is incredibly important.

“Nobody should struggle to feed or clothe themselves or their family.”

Happening on a weekly basis every Thursday, Dewsbury Community Street Kitchen is staffed entirely by volunteers and operates from a site in Dewsbury Market Place. It offers a range of support services to its patrons, by providing a range of food, toiletries, clothing and other items which have been donated by local businesses, Dewsbury Community Street Kitchen volunteers and members of the public.
