A daring challenge will see people walk over hot coals and broken glass to raise money for Barnsley Hospice.
The Fire and Ice Walk on Saturday 29 February at Shaw Lane Sports Club, Barnsley, will challenge supporters to step out of their comfort zone onto burning hot coals or razor-sharp broken glass.
Those taking part will be asked to collect sponsorship to raise vital funds for the hospice, which needs to raise over £2m each year to fund compassionate, high-quality patient care and support for families in the borough.
The event is being hosted by training and events organisation Time 4 Change, which specialises in helping charities raise money through fire and glass walking.
Cliff Mann is the founder of Time 4 Change and has 20 years’ experience as a firewalking instructor. He uses proven psychological and motivational methods to show participants how to be in the perfect state of mind to safely walk the hot coals or broken glass.
Cliff said: “I’m thrilled to be working with Barnsley Hospice to introduce the Fire and Ice challenge into their event schedule for this year.
“It’s a great personal achievement and many of our participants feel like they’re more in control of their emotions which can lead to them feeling happier or more confident in themselves. Everyone should try it once in their life, and what better way to do it than to give back to Barnsley Hospice in the process?”
Sam Silverwood, fundraising manager at Barnsley Hospice, said: “We’re really excited to bring back the Fire and Ice Walk. If you want to set yourself a personal challenge which is completely out of the ordinary, and test your mental strength, then this is the event for you! It’s also a great teambuilding exercise to try with colleagues or friends.”
Barnsley Hospice provides specialist care for anyone in the borough with a progressive, life-limiting illness, including cancer, motor neurone disease and heart disease.
In addition to money raised through fundraising, Barnsley Hospice receives a further £1.6m is provided by the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG).
