Countdown is on for entries to the Super Soapbox challenge
With less than six weeks to go until the highly anticipated Super Soapbox Challenge makes a return to Bradford City Centre, a call is going out for people to take part in the thrilling cart race.
Bradford BID is again the headline sponsor for the popular event which will be making a return on Sunday 5th May for a third year following the success of the previous years which attracted over 35,000 visitors into the city centre.
Entries to the race are required to make a cart that will hurtle down the huge ramp and navigate the course around the city centre, with the fastest lap taking the winning trophy. Awards will also be made on the day for Innovative Cart Design and Best turned-out Soapbox crew.
Jonny Noble, Bradford BID’s chief executive says: “The Bradford Super Soapbox Challenge is a fantastic fun day for everyone. We’re looking for adventurous teams of five people to enter The Super Soapbox Challenge, build their cart and have a great day’s racing. The previous entries have been outstanding. I can’t wait to see the teams that enter this year and their wacky designs making their way around the city centre. It all adds to the brilliant atmosphere on the day.”
Previous entries have included a burger, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, vintage dress, a Batmobile, Scientists, Superheroes, and many more crazy designs. The event is free for spectators to enjoy and cart entry costs £100 for individuals, BID-levy paying businesses and charities or £200 for a non-levy paying corporate entry. The races start from 11am on Kirkgate, outside Mario’s Hairdressers, heading down Bank Street and crossing the finishing line on Tyrell Street.
Andrew Pearson, marketing director for Super Soapbox Challenge, adds: “ We’re delighted to be making a return to Bradford in May and a huge thanks to Bradford BID and the other local businesses helping to make this happen. There’s still opportunities for organisations to get involved and be a part of this popular, feel-good event whether it’s by entering a team or sponsoring the day.”
The charity partners for this year’s event include Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Centrepoint and Mind in Bradford. In between races, live music will also entertain the crowds.
