Community Foundation fundraiser aims to secure sporting future for junior clubs and Halifax RLFC

The Community Foundation For Calderdale has partnered with a local agency to support the towns junior sports clubs and Halifax RLFC to create an online festival of sport, music and entertainment. This isn’t your normal doom and gloom “Save our club” type campaign, but one based on hope and ensuring that sport not only survives in Halifax, but thrives once lockdown has lifted.

Halifax-Based marketing agency Snowflake Media is organising an ambitious fundraising weekend festival of Sport, Comedy and music featuring past players, interviews and the odd pantomime villain. “We’d love to fill a “Virtual” Shay Stadium and raise £100,000 to really give the towns sports community a boost. It’s expected that due to the current financial climate lots of clubs will struggle to find much-needed kit sponsors when play resumes” said Lee Kenny, Managing Director of Snowflake Media. “Parents are often asked to dip in to their pockets and we’d like to relieve a little bit of that pressure with this fun, upbeat event”

Halifax has a rich history of sport, music and comedy and people are getting involved to support the cause. The following have already confirmed their involvement:

Hannah Cockroft & Lizzie Jones are the most recent additions to the line up. From Rugby League we have Damian Gibson, Andrew Dunneman, Des Clarke, Greg Florimo, Gavin Clinch, Brett Goldspink, Luke Ambler, Gary Mercer plus members of the 70’s cup winning squad. From the world of entertainment Lea Roberts, Pete Emmett, Darran Jackson, Jimbo Lynch & Kieran Nicholl music have all got behind the event with more names from the football, music and sports world to be announced shortly.

All proceeds will be split between Halifax Rugby League Football Club and a grants program for junior sports clubs in the Halifax area. The grants will be managed and distributed by The Community Foundation For Calderdale and hopes to give between £250 & £2000 per club depending on the success of the event.
