Bradford Metro Bank donates to local foodbank
Metro Bank’s Bradford store donated over 100 items and £500 to help support Bradford Central Foodbank and Advice Centre as part of its Christmas Community Campaign to spread the warmth this winter. In recognition of the current cost of living challenges. Metro Bank donated £35,000 to over 70 community charities, all of which are local to its stores, instead of having a Christmas tree in each store.
Bradford city centre foodbank serves the needs of a very deprived community as Bradford is ranked the fifth most income deprived local authority in England with 29% of children living below the poverty line. Last year the foodbank provided 127,809 meals to 14,201 local people. Bradford Central Foodbank is almost entirely staffed by volunteers, many of whom have benefited from the foodbank in the past and now want to give back.
Bradford residents and businesses donated food and drink, including the items the foodbank urgently needed.
"We would like to give a huge thank you to everyone who supported our campaign this Christmas," explains Bradford Metro Bank Store Manager, Denis Charlette. "The Bradford Central Foodbank does an outstanding job in helping to provide for families and individuals in need and we are proud that thanks to our customers and donors, we were able to provide much-needed support over Christmas in some small way."
Metro Bank’s Bradford store can be found at 5 Market Street, Bradford, West Yorkshire BD1 1EG. The store is open Monday – Saturday: 8.30am - 6pm. Sunday: 11am - 5pm.
