Andel shows Scotland how to build flood resilience
The UK’s leading developer of specialised leak detection, water sustainability and environmental protection systems, Andel, has showcased its products in Scotland to help build flood resilience.
The Yorkshire SME which specialises in water, oil and gas leak detection systems to protect the built and natural environment recently demonstrated its flood defence solutions at the Flood Resilience Conference in Edinburgh.
Flooding in Scotland is a recurring issue due to heavy rainfall, rising river levels, and coastal storm surges. Rugged terrain and numerous rivers in the Highlands, Perthshire, and parts of the Central Belt are especially vulnerable.
Climate change has intensified extreme weather events, leading to more frequent and severe flooding, which disrupts communities, damages infrastructure, and threatens homes and businesses so building resilience for both internal and external flooding on a tight budget and in rural areas is a real issue for both commercial and residential properties north of the border.
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) monitors flood risks and provides early warnings to mitigate impacts. Efforts such as improved drainage systems, flood defences, and sustainable land management aim to reduce long-term risks and protect vulnerable areas.
And Andel is part of that solution as it showcased four of its flood defence products at the conference: FloodAlert Bollard, FloodWall, FloodPump and CellarGuard® and FloodBlox® and BoxBarrier.
Gerbren Haaksma, Head of Sales & Export, said: “We thoroughly enjoyed attending the Scottish Flood Resilience Conference in Edinburgh, where we gained valuable insight into the challenges faced by local and rural communities due to ongoing flooding risks. It was a privilege to share resilient solutions and propose proactive measures that could offer greater peace of mind in their daily lives. We look forward to collaborating with the community to enhance their flood preparedness and improve their current situation.”
The Barnsley-based global environmental protection specialist has more than 30 years of experience in leak detection, pollution prevention and flood defence and an impressive customer base that includes the Houses of Parliament, The Pentagon, Hong Kong International Airport and Google and already has links to the area through its distributor in Australia, Pump Power.
