A Georgian mansion house in the heart of Halifax will provide the backdrop for a new afternoon tea experience launching this weekend.
From Saturday 5 October, Alibi Bar and Restaurant will be serving afternoon tea in its opulent first floor Grand Salon, an experience accompanied by Alibi’s resident pianist. Originally the main drawing room of the house, the Grand Salon features intricate plasterwork by renowned Italian Master Stuccoist, Giuseppe Cortese and is reputed to have taken ten years to complete.
Afternoon tea will be served in the Grand Salon every Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 4pm accompanied by a range of tea infusions, Alibi’s house ground coffee, Prosecco or Champagne. The menu is also available with vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Alibi’s Head Chef Damian Collinson has created the afternoon tea menu to complement the venue’s ornate dining space and extensive selection of teas, the latter featuring flowering teas supplied by Newby, the world’s most awarded luxury tea brand.
Other suppliers to the afternoon menu include Holdsworth’s meat suppliers of Halifax, Huddersfield-based fish wholesalers Sailbrand, Forge Coffee Roasters in Sheffield and Bradford fruit and vegetable suppliers Delifresh.

Alibi Bar and Restaurant opened earlier this year in Somerset House, a Grade 2 listed Georgian mansion house in Rawson Street, Halifax. Designed by John Carr of York, the property was originally built in 1766 for local woollen merchant John Royds.
Following an extensive £450,000 refurbishment, the independent drinks and dining establishment serves an extensive selection of cocktails, premium beers, wines and champagnes from across the globe. Alibi also offers cocktail masterclasses, live music, private hire spaces, three bars and a ground floor restaurant serving breakfast, brunch, lunch and evening meals.
Afternoon tea will also be available Monday to Friday from 12 noon till 4pm in the ground floor bar and restaurant.
