Cleckheaton-based creative design agency, ACD&B, is supporting the next generation of graphic designers by launching a competition for Kirklees College students.

ACD&B, which specialises in providing clients with branding, artworking, creative and web design was founded by Chris Parkinson, a former graphic design student at Dewsbury and Batley College (which is now Kirklees College). Chris has set a brief for the BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art, Design and Media Practice students to create a brand name, strapline and packaging design.

Chris and the team will review each of the student’s work and feedback will be provided. The student who fulfils and exceeds the brief will secure a paid, two-week placement at ACD&B, where they’ll get the opportunity to create work for their portfolio and liaise with clients. In addition they’ll receive £250 worth of Amazon vouchers.

Managing director Chris said: “For young people the pandemic has significantly impacted their chances of employment with a large proportion of 16 to 24-year-olds unemployed. I’m keen to draw on my own experience and inspire the next generation of local creative designers and help them enhance their CVs to increase their chances of employment when they graduate.

“I have fond memories of my time as a student and an affiliation to Kirklees College; it certainly laid the foundation to a rewarding career for me so it made sense to collaborate with them. I’m looking forward to seeing what the students create.”

Grace Clifford, course leader at Kirklees College said: “Working with ACD&B has provided students with the opportunity to apply learning within an industry context.

“The opportunity to discuss their ideas and gain insight from industry professionals is invaluable for them in developing relevant skills for the future. It’s a great challenge from ACD&B that allows the students to respond to a brief as well as explore their strengths and individual creativity.

“Developing strong industry links is a key part of Kirklees College’s commitment to students as they offer opportunities and increase their chances of employment.”

ACD&B’s experienced and passionate team work with B2B clients including NorthEdge, Retearn, Bespoke, and JLA to provide modern, creative visual solutions that deliver results and add value.

Kirklees College offers a wide range of vocational courses for students aged 16 upwards in further education, higher education, and adult education and is committed to serving the people of Kirklees and the surrounding areas.
