Urban trends specialist and academic Razi Riahi has joined Leeds established property marketing consultancy DS.Emotion in the newly created role of Strategy Director for Placemaking.
The significant appointment places DS.Emotion at the forefront of property and place marketing in the UK as industry understanding and recognition of the importance it plays in creating sustainable environments continues to rise.
Razi has gained considerable academic achievements and research accreditation focused on urban trends, redevelopment and technological impact on property design. With a BSc (Hons) degree in Industrial Design and a MSc degree in Design Management, acclaimed work includes Park Design Management for Decathlon across UK, working at China Design Management School in Shanghai for Ideo and Huawei and a study on the rise of Media City and the media and digital future for the Greater Manchester region whilst working at Salford University. Razi has also completed a study of “live work” – the new co-living/working concept, looking at urban living and optimum use of space aimed at the creative and technology sectors.
Razi comments “Placemaking is my passion and it fascinates me, so I’ve spent a great deal of time studying examples of placemaking strategies and projects around the world, and their effect on all stakeholders and analysis of their delivery and performance. It is a widely overused and misunderstood term in the property arena. As places become increasingly people focused, and people become more qualitative focused, buildings and wider developments need a cultural and lifestyle offering that meets the evolving criteria of the audience. With technological advancements now positively affecting connectivity of different places and building design, the role of placemaking is now more important than ever.”
“With a family background in property development I have always been fascinated by the cultural and organic development of places, cities and regions. What I love about place making is that it takes a strategic view of a whole area within a destination that affects all stakeholders. It’s a complex area and requires extensive research, strategy and creativity and at DS.Emotion I intend to excel in giving clients detailed and considered advice on their development strategy.
“I am thrilled to join DS Emotion;an award winning, leading property marketing agency that has already made great strides in placemaking for an enviable client base”.
Angus Armitage, Co-Founder of DS Emotion commented “We are delighted to welcome Razi in a strategic placemaking role to further intellectualise the placemaking work we have been undertaking in recent years. Razi brings and extra dimension to our service with in depth strategic insight that challenges the traditional thought process in property development.
“Her extensive knowledge of successful placemaking around the world, combined with her creativity and ability to identify trends ahead of the curve, will combine with our Place Activation brand and creative services to position DS.Emotion in the lead for place marketing.”
“We have witnessed first-hand the role that placemaking has had on the success of new developments we have been involved with over the past decade and we are passionate about working with our clients to create sustainable environments that ultimately delivers long term asset value.”
