Xscape into Christmas with bespoke grotto for charity

A cinematically inspired bespoke grotto helping to raise money for charity will play home to Santa this winter at Xscape Yorkshire.

Six families were the first to enter the specially built Santa’s Snug thanks to a partnership between Xscape Yorkshire and their Charity of the Year, Barnardo’s.

The families were the first to step into Santa’s Snug after they’d taken part in the festive launch parade to welcome Santa to the centre.

Visits to Santa’s Snug are £2.50 with £1 going directly to charity partner Barnardo’s – plus each child gets a branded gift as part of their visit. Photos and merchandise are available too, with £1 from every sale also going to the charity.

Jade Elliott, Marketing Manager of Xscape Yorkshire, said: “We wanted to do something special this Christmas for Barnardo’s. As well as raising much needed funds to help support the fantastic services the charity provides for families in our community, we worked with Barnardo’s to treat six families to a magical VIP Santa visit. We also teamed up with Junction 32 Outlet Village, who provided some amazing gifts for the children.”

One of the families included mum-of-three, Trish Willmott, of Wakefield.

She said: “We loved seeing Santa in his Snug. Caiden enjoyed it and loved his gift. It was a great event to be part of, especially with the funds that will be raised through the grotto ticket sales for Barnardo’s – they’ve been a great support to me and my family.”

Kate Goodwin, Children’s Service Manager at Barnardo’s Wakefield Services, added: “We’re really grateful to Xscape Yorkshire for having Barnardo’s as their charity of the year. Barnardo’s works with disadvantaged young people all over West Yorkshire and the money raised through Santa’s Snug will make a real difference to families and children in our area – and it was a great opportunity for the children of the six families to see Santa.”

Visitors can find the Santa experience on the ground floor towards the back of the centre near to Volcano Falls Adventure Golf and will be open on selected days up to and including December 24. Visitors are encouraged to pre-book their Santa visit at www.xscapeyorkshire.co.uk

Welcoming more than 4 million visitors a year, Xscape Yorkshire is one of Yorkshire’s and England’s biggest visitor attractions.

Located in Glasshoughton, Castleford, Xscape Yorkshire opened in 2003 after a £56m investment, covers a size close to six football pitches and employs more than 1,000 people. The attraction sits close to the M62 near junction 32 and its towering façade – equal to the height of around four double decker buses – is now a key feature of the county’s skyline.
