The latest phase of redevelopment at The Globe, an historic mill complex in Huddersfield, has been completed with an additional 6,000 sq ft of new, Grade A workspace now available to let.

The Globe is a landmark site in Slaithwaite which is a fast emerging location for medical enterprise in Kirklees. A partnership between Hartley Property Trust Ltd and Kirklees Council has allowed an investment of more than £5 million to transform the first of two significant buildings to provide 80,000 sq ft of innovation space.

All five floors in the first building have been transformed to provide a state of the art innovation centre, laboratory space, medical suites, offices and retail space as well as an atmospheric Artisan Hall.

The release of new workspace follows a series of successful deals. Colne Valley Group Practice and associated pharmacy occupy 6,000 sq ft on the first floor to support its 10,000 patients whilst pharmaceutical and healthcare company, Thornton & Ross relocated its 16,000 sq f t headquarters at The Globe in a deal that set new headline rents for the Kirklees at £18 per sq ft.

Further deals totalling just over 3,000 sq ft were secured this year with Innovate Orthaepedics, Euro Digital Systems and Integrated Life Science Group, Blake Clough Consulting and more recently technology and data science business, Frame.

Chris Smith, a spokesperson for Hartley Property Trust said, “We are delighted to complete the latest phase of a comprehensive restoration and redevelopment plan for The Globe. These buildings are an important part of our regional heritage and our investment has delivered new, highly efficient and modern workspace with the important carbon benefits of repurposing buildings.

“Voted the best place to live in the North and North East by the Sunday Times, Slaithwaite is on the rise and The Globe delivers against a lifestyle choice for state of the art premises that are walkable or easily commutable with direct rail access to Leeds, Manchester and beyond.”

The remaining space at The Globe is being targeted at ancillary health services such as dentist, optician, physiotherapist and holistic services with suites available from 500 sq ft upwards.

Larger floor plates are also available for office occupation from 1,000 sq ft to 15,000 sq ft and the Innovation Centre offers incubator office and laboratory accommodation from 150 sq ft upwards with business support and mentoring available.

A unique Artisan Hall provides ‘shell specification ready’ opportunities for specialist food, drink and other local producers from 1,000 sq ft up to 7,500 sq ft. for larger restaurant and bar operators. Units are also available from 3,000 sq ft to 7,500 sq ft. at ground floor level for retail/convenience units with car park and canal frontages.

The Globe commands an impressive canal-side position in the centre of Slaithwaite which is one of the most picturesque villages in the Colne Valley. It is located on the main A62 trunk road linking Huddersfield with Manchester with direct rail access to Huddersfield town centre, Leeds, Manchester and beyond. The redevelopment also includes a new pedestrian bridge over the canal basin, linking to Carr Street which is the main retail area and high street of Slaithwaite.
